Simple in construction but effective water filter

Water is super important for people!

There are places on earth where there is no water at all. There are also places where there is a lot of it, but it is polluted.

We need clean water to drink so we can stay healthy and strong. Dirty water can make us very sick. It can cause diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach aches. Sometimes, it can even cause serious diseases like cholera.

Water helps our bodies work properly and keeps us from getting dehydrated. It also helps grow our food and keeps the environment clean. We all need to protect our water and make sure it's safe for everyone to drink. This means keeping our rivers and lakes clean and making sure everyone has access to clean drinking water.

However, there is an easy way to purify water of most contaminants. You can build your own water filter. It is not difficult and does not require many materials.

Water filter diagram

In this figure, the material containers are shown in numbers:

1 - small stones (gravel)
2 - clean sand (fine sand, small grains)
3 - charcoal
4 - thick layer of cloth

Small pebbles and fine sand help pre-filter the water from larger impurities.

Charcoal absorbs toxins and other minor pollutants. Charcoal should be as much as possible. This is the most important part of the filter.

The material on the bottom is not necessary, but it helps to catch smaller particles of charcoal. It must be clean. It is best if the material is boiled.

Don't know where to get materials?

You can find pebbles and sand almost everywhere. Sometimes you have to dig them up.

Charcoal for example is left in a fire from unburned pieces of wood (wood that haven't burned completely).

After passing through such a filter, the water may not be suitable for consumption yet. It is best to boil it for safety.

Since the construction of such a filter is simple and cheap, you can also use several filters one after the other.
